Before joining Northstar, Tony directed global cloud and network infrastructure programs at AWS, Meta, and Oracle, managing multi-billion-dollar investments across multiple regions. He combines deep technical knowledge with two decades of military leadership, championing resilience, adaptability, and opportunities for veterans and those who serve.
A recognized thought leader and keynote speaker, Tony is consistently ranked among the Top 10 Data Center Influencers. Through his writing, media appearances, and public speaking, he explores the intersection of AI factories, sovereign AI clouds, next-generation networks, sustainable data centers, and national defense, helping organizations build resilient, energy-efficient, and globally scalable infrastructure for the future of compute.
Leadership & Vision
Tony Grayson is a retired U.S. Navy Submarine Commander and recipient of the Vice Admiral James Bond Stockdale Award for Inspirational Leadership. After more than two decades of military service, Tony transitioned from commanding nuclear-powered submarines to leading innovation in AI infrastructure, modular data centers, networks, nuclear power, and energy systems.
He currently serves as President & General Manager of Northstar Enterprise & Defense, where he holds full P&L responsibility and leads the design and operation of defense-grade, sustainable modular data centers and AI infrastructure. Under his leadership, Northstar has become one of the Top 10 Modular Data Center providers worldwide, delivering high-density compute, advanced networking, edge computing, and AI inference, including agentic and generative AI as well as large language models for enterprise, hyperscale, and government clients.

Nuclear Expertise
Tony Grayson possesses extensive expertise in nuclear energy and reactor operations, developed over decades of service in the U.S. Navy’s elite nuclear program. As a Department of Energy (DOE) and Naval Reactors–certified nuclear operator, he holds the rare qualification to operate and manage a nuclear power plant. His background commanding nuclear-powered submarines and overseeing advanced energy systems directly informs his leadership in data center design, power management, and sustainable infrastructure. Tony’s nuclear foundation exemplifies his dedication to safety, precision, and operational excellence in every endeavor he undertakes.

His career includes pivotal roles at Facebook, AWS, and Oracle, where he became an expert in transformative leadership, product management, and operations, most notably spearheading innovation and developing standout products like Oracle’s Dedicated Region. Today, he leads data centre startups focused on shaping the next generation of data centre development.

Tony Grayson built, led, and successfully sold Compass Quantum, a startup he launched under Compass Data Centers to pioneer the next generation of modular and edge data center solutions. Under his leadership, Compass Quantum quickly became known for its innovative, energy-efficient, and rapidly deployable infrastructure designed to meet the growing demands of AI, edge computing, and defense applications. The company reached a major milestone when Northstar Technologies Group acquired majority ownership of Compass Quantum from Compass Data Centers, enabling its next phase of growth and expansion. Following the acquisition, Compass Quantum was recognized among the Top 10 Modular Data Center Companies worldwide, underscoring Tony’s leadership and his ability to build and scale transformative technology ventures that define the future of digital infrastructure.
